Novikov 50a Berkeley Square W1J 8HA +44 207 399 4330 Russian restaurant mogul Arkady Novikov owns the Vogue Cafe, the GQ Bar, and Gianni Versace's former house on Lake Como, not to mention 50 other spots. In recent years, Russia has had a revolution; all spots seem to serve some sort of extreme- priced Asian food (usually sushi, sometimes dim sum) with women in plunge- back dresses and $1500 heels and the men who escort them in Rolls Royces. Best not to ask too much about where the money came from. So if you've been to any of Novikov's higher- end places in Moscow as we have, you know what to expect. Folks dressed to the nines and coming to be seen dropping money (not just seen, mind you). Often international. Not necessarily concerned with whether there's better food elsewhere (in the case of Novikov, there is) so long as they're having a good time splashing their martinis and reveling in the fact that they are the .0001%. As with his Vogue Cafe where the borscht is surprisingly good, here the cocktails are surprisingly tasty, so they make our cut for bars. |
