Sometimes in a town like New York, it’s a lot of work to get your hair cut by the best. Either it’s impossible to get on their calendar or it’s so expensive every six weeks, who needs to pay rent. Well, we’re blowing the lid on this best kept secret; trained under John Sahag, it is shockingly easy to get an appointment with one of the best of the best in NY: Eiji Yamane. And you don’t have to be Claire Danes, Ivana Trump, or Yoko Ono to do it (though all of them are Eiji clients). There’s two big reasons this guy is their choice. Eiji is the guy who brought hair straightening to America. (Is that a thundering New York style stampede we hear?) Big reason number two. How many times have you gotten your hair cut, shampooed it the following day and wondered what happened to the look you had the previous day when you left the salon? Well this is the place to end of all that unhappy day-after hair. This peaceful salon overlooking Madison at 57th focuses on dry cuts. Eiji cuts tiny bits at a time till you have the perfect art form. Only then do you get a wash and a blow out. The end result is a much more enduring shape and long lasting cut, but more importantly, the end of Hair Surprise. They don’t even recommend you come back for three months (in between bang trims are free!) None of that every six weeks nonsense that requires a time commitment and budget no real New Yorker can afford.
