The corner of Union Square that was Rothman's has seen a spectacular make-over by TPG Architecture into Elizabeth Arden's The Red Door. Upstairs they do under-30 minute treatments under the cute moniker "SpeedUPStairs" such as manicures, blow drys, makeup and lash applications all in a "New York minute". The "CalmDOWNStairs" features 14 treatment rooms (including two couple treatment rooms) for those who want longer indulgence. Facials, massages, colouring stations, manicure-pedicure section and a decompression lounge sprawl this expansive space underground. Totaling 10,000 square feet, the set-up is so extensive that you could almost get lost in the corridors of this beauty spot. Perhaps most sought after though will be the Custom Color Foundation station that allows clients to create a foundation that matches not just skin tone but coverage level, finish and skin type. (More moisturizer? It can do that. Mattifier? That too.) Quintessentially New York, this spot is now quintessentially Union Square.
