We had high hopes for this place but they've already burnt through one doorman who, as we were on our way in at the private pre- opening night, we saw turn away the scene writer of a major national magazine. And then it's never a good thing when we hear bad story after bad story about a club so soon after its opening. The cake- taker so far is when a certain ex- Lotus doorman confirmed a multi table, multi bottle table birthday reservation at 9 pm only to refuse to let the high roller in a mere few hours later once he realised the birthday boy was...gasp..... Asian. Unfortunately for Cielo, Birthday was rolling with bar owners and other press gadabouts. Nothing like more informal bad publicity. No amount of good music (and Nicolas Matar's - formerly the DJ at Pacha in Ibiza) - spins are awesome) can make up for the fact that NY is a locals town with a pecking order. All the tales plus unprofessional in- house staff may halt Nicolas' dream right at the velvet rope. Who can afford that what with spots like Show and Lobby also newly opened.
