The stunning historic landmark that is the Mansfield hotel is even more beautiful after a 12 month restoration. Originally designed by James Renwick as a gentleman’s hostelry in the Beaux Arts and Second Empire styles, the spot was home to such luminaries as John Butler Yeats and Max von Gerlach, one of the figures Zelda Fitzgerald said helped shape the Great Gatsby composite character Jay Gatsby. Truly old New York with curving, wrought iron balustrades and terrazzo floors, the hotel has 99 guest rooms and 27 suites, including the Yates Apartment, the Jennings Apartment and of course the Fitzgerald. Delivering a touch of true old Manhattan style, with its posh cream and dark wood décor, service is tops here. A free business center, free hi-speed wireless, iHome radio with iPod docking stations, laptop compatible safes, hypoallergenic bedding, 24 hour room service and a European breakfast, served complimentary each morning in the M Bar are just some details. We chose this spot (over any other) to film a TV series and were tempted to move in permanently.
