NoMad Hotel
1170 Broadway
212 796 1500

It was only a matter of time before another hotel colonised this area. Till now it's been the Ace's game as hipsters braved the 99 cent stores, incense sellers and cell- phone jobbers on neighbouring blocks to get to the hotel and its concessions. Now, the NoMad hotel (NoMad standing for 'north of Madison', a slightly annoying abbreviation in a "we wish this were a neighbourhood" way), has opened and its Library Bar, restaurant and shop vie for the same, if slightly, wealthier clientele. The hotel rooms feature Kilim rugs, white walls and curtains with lots of black touches: black headboards, black picture frames, black wrought iron lamps; all beautiful if a bit of a cool cliche. Stunning floor- to- ceiling windows make up for the claw- foot tub placed smack in the middle of your room. Be sure to visit the Library bar, straight out of a My Fair Lady set. Although, note that the much touted "find the flask and get a free cocktail" promo does not seem to be on.
