Taj 48 West 21st Street 212 620 3033 Perhaps brought together by the karma of their names (or their love for all things Indian), florist to the stars Lesly Zamor (Bloom) and Lesly Bernard (NYC, Pravda, now defunct Clementine) have transformed a smallish event space into a biggish chic hangout bringing in fashionable types of all ages, from handbag designer Ria to more established Nicole Miller. In a tiny kitchen smaller than your starter studio apartment, consulting chef Jonathan Lindenauer (ex Aureole, Jean Georges) designs fun, interactive food like the grilled shrimps and chicken tandoori. (Dip the shrimp in pineapple chutney and eat it with toasted slivers. Rub the chicken in creme fraiche and roll it in nuts.) We call it Indian food for people who don't like Indian food, since you might change your mind after seeing it executed by exec chef Chris Enright. (Ask him for the wild berry samosas.) Warning: after a few of the house drink, the Rose Martini, you might be tempted to smooch (like we were) George Clooney look- alike doorman Anthony. |
