Ixta
48 East 29th Street
212 683 4833

Even though Ixta is named for Mexico’s Iztaccihuatl, a mountain that's part of a legend of "gods" of remembrance of two starcrossed Indian lovers, we're expecting that that will have no bearing on the future of this 50 seat modern day Mexican hotspot. Seating 50 and boasting lit palm trees and outdoor dining, a slew of scene veterans, Lesly Zamor (Taj, Bloom), chef Linda Japngie (Jimmy’s Uptown, Jimmy’s Downtown, Nicole’s, Bouley Bakery, La Caravelle, The Mark), and cocktail expert Jerri Banks (Cellar in the Sky, Taj, Fressen) serve up the traditional (ceviches, tamales and enchiladas), as well as the modern (seared tuna with a black bean puree and blood orange margarita reduction, skirt steak with poblano creamed corn and jalapeño croquettes, roasted achiote chicken with corn tamale hash and mole reduction) in Mexican fare.
