Highline 835 Washington Street 212 243 3339 Ah if only airline food were actually like this....... Yes, it is another Thai restaurant with a very cool design (and designer, Charoonkit Thahong) that pays homage to the world of travel. This one, however, is more accessible and more real than it's predecessors. If the LED board at the entrance reminds you of the stress you feel at Grand Central or Union Station, it's no joke. It's meant to seem like the arrival/departure board at High Line railroad - the namesake of the restaurant. In addition, the "travel-themed" appetisers carry the theme: En Route and Side Decks. One a deconstructed duck curry (the future of food? do it yourself assembly? That poor duck.) Even the fabric that covers the banquettes echo the fabric used on a Thai airline. This is one spot where you will be happy to be nickel and dimed by the travel industry as the reward is in cost - all entrees top out at $14. For this we love the owners who's resume include Spice, Peep, and SEA in Brooklyn........ Also we hear that Matt Dillon, Robert DeNiro, and Ethan Hawke are expected to drop in soon. Ooops, did we say that, you never heard it here. |
