Mercadito
179 Avenue B
212 529 6490

Mercadito's cozy little corner of the world is full of very edible, very experiential foods - this Taqueria and Cevicheria hits the market at just the right time, with new Mexican being discovered left and right. Patricio Sandoval and Darin Rubell's spot features camaron, atun, salmon ceviches, with our favourite being the smoked mahi mahi, ruby red grapefruit, cactus and habanero one. In the soft tacos, the de pescado (fish of the day) and the nopalitos (a cactus salad) versions are the standouts. Botanos, such as the ostiones (oysters) with corn salsa and sweet potato mash, and a plantains Foster are not to be missed. Comfortable and intimate, with the neighbours already parading by for the good eats, you might consider a move to an apartment on Avenue B to get a bit closer to this place...
