Markt 676 Sixth Avenue 212 727 3314 Relocated from the Meatpacking is this uncomplicated, attitude- free spot that still serves a consistently reliable Belgian meal. In fact, with the same vintage wooden tables, antique tiles, aged mirrors and factory clock to the staff who came over from the original to the staple dishes; everything about this place is consistent (except maybe the clock; go by your watch.) Standout menu choices are the salade de homard (a half chilled lobster on top avocado, cucumber and tomatoes) and of course, the many mussels options. Best ones are a la Provencale with basil and tomato and a la coriandre which has curry and cilantro, as well as cream. There's a long list of pastas, fish, meats and salads to satisfy any fussy eater, but we particularly like the Belgian beef stew made with Leffe Brown beer. |
