La Esquina 106 Kenmare Street 646 613 7100 Whether you're amused or scared by going through the Employees Only door and via the kitchen, it sure is a tunnel to get through to this underground (literally) restaurant. If that doesn't scare you away, then taquitos, tostadas, a super jicama and mango salad and creamy ceviches await you. A list of tequila a mile long might make it hard for you to find your way back but the only thing to skip on this menu is the dessert. (We didn't love that.) Everything else is tasty and cheap. Serge Becker and friends have managed to keep some of the old 80s feel of L.A. in this space and we like to ignore the postcards which say, tourist. Thankfully, you can only come on reservation - no walk ins - and that reduces the chances of touristas. But not by much. |
