The House 121 East 17th Street 212 353 2121 The House is so gorgeous that if you're eating at one of the front tables, be prepare to put up with people who literally stop in front of the restaurant, stare up at it, and muse that it would be great to move in. A stunning brownstone, everything inside is right about this white marbled and wood accented duplex that's at once old New York and modern. A menu that has starters such as oysters Rockefeller, salumi, bibb lettuce with gorgonzola pears; and entrees such as seared branzino with white beans and red and gold beets, and a house lasagna reflects the mix of classic and new. Specials by the day include rarities such as baked pheasant with a ginger lemongrass honey and Australian lamb served with mint jelly. No detail is too small here where both Prosecco and Cava are served and the sliding door bathroom even has plush TP. Romantic and hidden (so much so that the staff is bewildered by enquiries and seems unpress savvy), we are glad we stumbled upon it and you will be too. |
