Bar Martignetti 406 Broome Street 212 680 5600 Bar Martignetti wants to be more Connecticut country club, critter bowties and way too- cool attitude than it is. Instead it's more like chicken paillard and mimosas served with a large dose of general spaciness. So despite the snotty statements by bartenders in various press clips, there's less attitude here than you might believe. In a cozy split level restaurant filled with white-washed plank walls, wooden tables and a silver old-fashioned bartop, is this spot that's equally great for a peaceful Sunday newspaper read and burger at the bar, as it is for a raucous night out with friends involving French fries, mac and cheese, and pork chops. No one seems to mind if random people show up and join your table or if you order too many drinks from the bar or if people table hop or hang out the window talking to friends outside. So if you're not an anal retentive food critic (okay, you also can't be in a rush for the check and can't mind if details are occasionally wrong with your order), this fabulous corner spot is a lovely place to while away the time. |
