Minetta Tavern 113 Macdougal Street 212 475 3850 This very expensive - can we say very expensive a second time - steak house from Keith McNally and chefs Riad Nasr and Lee Hanson, has none of the professional detractors that Morandi did. It is widely loved, whether for the steak or the potatoes Anna, but it does have some of the hallmarks of a McNally spot; it is swarmed, it is loud, it is hard to get into and it is - let's say for the third time - expensive. The strip and the cote de boeuf are the winners (the latter no surprise at $90) but also good are the grilled dorade, a steal at $21 and the pig's trotter and lentils at $19. Actually perhaps the best things on the menu aren't the steak. A lovely lobster salad, the aforementioned potatoes, and another fish offering, the trout, are what we'd come back for. That is, if someone else sorted out getting the booking for us! |
