You might almost miss this sparsely decorated 2-room Japanese restaurant by virtue of its spartan appearance and odd location across from two fairly unsubtle bars. But don't. Couples and group friendly, we loved best the elegant fish ceviche of the day in its yuzu white soy done with endive; and tuna tartare done unusually smokey with Japanese cucumber and popped soy bean crackers. However what this spot has going for it is if you're a sashimi lover with that one stubborn friend (or spouse or parent) who always orders the cooked teriyaki; this is your dream restaurant. Options for the non-raw eater are endless such as a tender, lovely duck salad with plum vinaigrette; homemade shrimp and crab harumaki, a paper- thin crusted spring roll with super fresh seafood, wood ear mushrooms and a kalamansi nectar dipping sauce; buttery pistachio Caribbean grilled shrimp topped with a crab roe puree. There's plenty on the menu for those who don't like fish at all; such as a lamb tataki with radish and prime rib eye with chick pea puree. But while your finicky friend tucks into that, you won't be suffering because the sushi bar blends beautifully fresh and unusual options (such as belt fish (tachiuo); gizzard shad (kohada); sea trout; cod fish (gindara); tuna with sweet avocado puree; hamachi with olive paste; ume squid shiso roll; yellow tail jalapeno roll; spicy scallop roll etc) with the classics (toro; tai; saba; sawara; kani; mirugai; uni; etc). Wash it all down with a house glass of Okuden sake.
