You would expect Pop Art Bar + Restaurant to be located in Dubai or perhaps, South Beach, filled with Art Basel types. But instead it's here on the Upper East side where the chicest possible crowd has discovered this baby blue and white gallery slash restaurant and are already having birthday parties in the garden and dinners with their girlfriends. From glamourous art collector Nahid De Camillis (imagine if Sophia Loren had been a gallerina), the room is decorated with a collection of Banksy's pieces, photography from Mark Leialoha (of Iggy Pop, Michael Jackson, Kurt Cobain, and Marilyn Monroe) and even some Chanterelle menu illustrations from Roy Lichenstein and Marcel Marceau. The food is lovely - salmon Melody is crisp on the outside on a layer of colourful vegetables and a chicken Milanese comes with lovely grape tomatoes bursting with just enough butter and seasonal asparagus. There's also such fun things to order as the black truffle duck pate from Petrossian done with a kumquat sauce, cornichons, pickled red onions and a microgreen salad, and the berry cloud, almost a mixed berry shortcake. But in all honesty, though certainly better than you'll ever make at home, the food is ancillary to the experience. You expect at any minute as you're eating that you'll find that you've popped up in a highly stylised film; the kind with heists and glamour, possibly an island scene, definitely a love triangle.
