The neighbourhood favourite Gnocco remains a winner for two key reasons. Firstly you can book a loud group and you know that they can roll with it. Two, the thin-crust pizzas can't be beat in terms of value for money. If you live in the neighbourhood, you know then that this place has been serving up the Emiliana (prosciutto and arugula); the Affumicata (sausages and smoked mozzarella); Amatriciana (pancetta, onion, pepper and mozzarella) along with the classics such as Marinara, Margherita and an eggplant Parm pie for some years now. A pie for two along with a couple of the house salads such as the Nizzarda and you can easily finagle dinner for two under $40. We weren't as impressed with the carpaccios nor the mains so if you have non- pizza eaters in your group (or your date is lactose- intolerant), this might not be the spot for you, but that nonwithstanding? We'd pick this as our pizza spot, trading in the tourists of Little Italy for the colourful Tompkins Square Park view.
