The pint-sized lobby of this building has been turned into a tasting menu restaurant helmed by owner Jodi Richard, chef Nick Curtin (Noma, Jack's Luxury Oyster Bar, Perry St) and GM Eamon Rockey (Eleven Madison Park). Set up as a wave of a bar that focuses on beautiful wine, thoughtful cocktails and a changing-nightly chef's selection, approximately ten diners (with an additional twenty seats around the space) are treated to an 8-10 course adventure that will make even the most jaded eaters swoon. Foodies can expect such visual and taste sensations as the rock shrimp - a raw shrimp cooking on a sizzling hot rock on a bed of fresh pine needles and the Max Creek trout, a "fish and chips" says Eamon, done up with lemon yoghurt and malt vinegar baby potato chips. Another delight might be the amuse bouche, uni on one side and a pint- sized baked potato with caviar on the other. There's more traditional insertions such as the poussin for two with buttery turnips, but the joy is really in the reinventions such as their "cheese steak" with jalapeno. It's all paired with wines they've chosen from small cru vineyards that you won't find anywhere else (the menu is on an iPad for your perusal.) If you want to truly wow your date, this place is the place to make that impression. p.s. this is a no-cash establishment.
