Charming bobo is sought after for the 36-seat garden rooftop. Those without NYC terraces inevitably exclaim, "Wouldn't this be great to have as my house?" And with the bird cages, banquettes, "found"-style tables, holiday lights and bamboo, it would. Small clusters gather here for the quaint fare one might find at a Park Slope dinner party. For example, canapes feature deviled eggs, fried oysters or lobster arancini. Salads are simple and fresh with things one might collect at the farmer's market. We liked the bobo salad with bibb lettuce leaves, beets, chewy pecans and a hearty dose of tangy Four Brothers' chevre. A poached salmon on a bed of cauliflower glazed in a horseradish yoghurt cream might be something you could pull off (if you cook regularly.) But while some dishes fool you into thinking you might have made this for your own guests, others have no such pretense. A Diver scallop crudo (sliced in a citrus vinaigrette sprinkled with delicious Lillet) comes in a half shell - and looks nothing like anything one could cobble together. "Fish and chips", a square of crunchy and crusty, flaky haddock with tiny fingerling potatoes could only come from the professionals. This trick of "you could almost" is behind their success. You *could* attempt to create the bobo sparkling cocktail, a prosecco, aperol, solerno mixture ; a drink that might lead to evenings of gals with chickens on their heads or dogs playing piano (see the cartoon on their website)... or you could just bring your friends here. Note, despite the downstairs, it's the small bar on the second floor where everyone really clusters.
