Find a place where you can watch sports, and inevitably there's nothing but fried foods. No longer. Owner Chris Coco's 5500 square foot spot mixes something we've longed for for ages - a raw bar, real menu, great cocktails, craft beer with a massive 16 x 9 media wall and HDTVs -- this spot made our list because it finally delivers what New Yorkers have been asking for. Named in tribute to Pennsylvania 6-5000, the phone number of the nearby Pennsylvania Hotel (made famous in the Glenn Miller Orchestra song), the old New York feeling is injected into a casual American offering, through 24 foot ceilings, oak touches everywhere, art deco lighting and marble cocktail bar and the menu of Executive Chef Humberto Leon (STK Downtown). Chipotle-glazed St Louis ribs, fried Ipswich clams, blue crab mac and cheese, a classic Caesar salad, lobster rolls, and a maple pork chop are amongst the things that call to mind the 50 states, but the Daily Supper, a main that changes every day, also works in such fare as a linguine with clams and chorizo on Mondays or a Korean fried chicken with a napa cabbage slaw on Tuesdays. A selection of six different kinds of pizzas and flatbreads appeal to those after a bit of Italy. And for the meat lovers, there is a dry aged sirloin or the Penn6 burger. No one is neglected here; budget conscious diners will love the soup and sandwich; a Vidalia onion soup with a gruyere grilled cheese. Round it all off with a cocktail from Craig Hutson, who apprenticed under Dushan Zaric of Employees Only.
