Gilligan's 310 West Broadway Soho Grand Hotel 212 965 3000 Transforming the Soho Grand's yard into a combination beach shack slash lush patio is Gilligan’s, a summer pop-up restaurant, from Nick Hatsatouris and Lincoln Pilcher (Montauk's Moby Dick, Kingswood, Eveleigh). In this spot, the bustle of the city completely disappears. Easy going and casual, chef Gary King, serves up thin-crust pizzas, grilled whole fish, crudos, and leafy salads, the sort of shared fare one might have at a beach side resort you roll up to in a bikini and flip flops. Ordered from the changing chalkboard, diners are given a numbered buoy to continue the theme. Those who don't want to eat can drink their tropical with choices such as a Dark and Stormy or the Watermelon Margarita. Cold- brewed coffee also screams summer for those just wanting a bit of pickup. While preference is given to diners, the idea is for this spot to be anyone, walk- in anytime. Open 4pm to midnight daily and at 11am on the weekends for brunch as well, this spot provides a bit of an oasis for anyone who just doesn't want to do the commute to the seashore. |
