A rare pioneer in the retail space, this store on University stocks its own label of 'avant-garde yet casual', 'minimalistic yet bright' separates. Melon and celadon- coloured tops are on display along with black perforated pleather A-line skirts along with hand-beaded shift dresses. For those looking for something that no one else has, which doesn't break the bank (most pieces are around $200), and which is worth adding to one's limited New York closet space, this store fills that gap. The JF business started out in private labelling and still makes a limited number of pieces for the high end ranges at Opening Ceremony and they own two factories outright so discovering this store now will give you "I knew them when" bragging rights as they are certainly bound to get much bigger than this corner. Women's clothes form the bulk of the collection along with a selection of complementary jewellery and accessories (some a bit more whimsical than others, such as the cropped fingerless, beaded "gloves".) Also keeping it interesting, Jesse and Katie regularly partner with contemporary artists (K8 Hardy, robbinschilds and Ulrike Mueller) on product collaborations such as a recent ceramics spotlight on makers Zachary Leener and Paloma Correa. As well, menswear is not ignored. A carefully created selection is available for them as well.
