Manhattan's wine stores have been dwindling so we were happy when Back Label Wine Merchants opened on 20th Street. Organized by types of wine, it's a good place to pick up a bottle especially as they're open every day seven days a week till 10pm. Their selections include such specialties as bio-dynamic wine, high acid wines and bottles from harder to source locales such as Lebanon. However what's really nice are the teaching classes they're hosting in their wide open educational space. Working with wine producers, cheese makers and bartenders, they are doing sessions on champagne, cheese pairings, grapes you may not have heard of, single malt Scotchs; all sorts of reasons to drink and eat.
